Random is Better than Nothing

24 June 2008

Random quote:

“Why do I have to wake up so early? It’s summer vacation. I can have my own schedule. I’m not a kid anymore. Well, maybe I’m kid-ish, but I’m not a kid!”

Random question:

Do you tip the owner at a salon? I had been taught that, no, you don’t. They own the place. They get the profit. This morning Impera and I went to get a bikini wax (her first, and we probably won’t get any more this summer, but we’re going on that family vacation on Sunday, so don’t start giving me a hard time about beauty treatments for kids [or, kid-ish humans], OK?) and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had (the owner rushed it, had no interest in minimizing pain, and had terrible attitude). I left no tip, partially because she was the owner, partially because I refuse to give someone extra money when the experience was so awful.

Random change of plans (with bonus question!):

This afternoon we were going to have a picnic dinner on the town green with some of Impera’s school friends, listening to Orchestra Baobab. It was going to be birthday celebration #1. Unfortunately, the concert was cancelled because of thunderstorms (which are cracking over my head as I type). Instead, the girls will watch a movie. Maybe Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. But one of the girls has pretty strict parents. Fourteen-year-olds can watch that movie, right? We all watched it when we were that age — it isn’t inappropriate, is it?

Random hope:

Tomorrow is birthday celebration #2: Family and friends, a bbq, at the local pond. I sure hope this rain is over by then!

I actually like waking up early, and get really mad when I oversleep, like today, when I got up after seven.

Ferris Bueller not safe for strict parents? Blimey.

Then again my sister had a neighbour in rural Washington State that wouldn’t allow her little girls to watch Disney Movies because they had things of the devil in them like Witches and Dragons…

TEOM: “Ouch” is right. I got a bruise, the woman was so rough. Sheesh.

KathyF: Well, see, me too. We aren’t yet at the noon wake-ups, but she is definitely pushing for midnight lights out.

BOT: In the end, we rented Napoleon Dynamite. Impera loves that movie, and it has no bad language in it at all. Beuller supposedly has many ass and shits, which worried Impera (for her friend).

When she was a toddler, one of her friends didn’t celebrate Halloween because it is Satanic. Oh, well.
