Crafting 2009
I’m a slow crafter, but I do finish things, really! These are the items I’ve made this year. (And I’m cheating by starting off with something I made at the end of 2008.)
1. Embellished Tea Towels (embroidery)
Store-bought tea towels, with blackwork embroidery and new bias edging. Made for Three of Four’s birthday.
2. Aprons for the Family
The one on the left was made with two dishtowels, using the general directions from Martha Stewart online (but without a pocket). The other two are traditional bbq aprons (again, without a pocket). For both of these aprons I used cotton duck (a thick fabric often used for upholstery), because what is the use of an apron if the spill goes right through onto your clothes?
Storebought quilt bias tape used on all three for edging and ties. These were super quick to make once I actually sat down to start. The BBQ apron is very easy to adjust sizing for the recipient.
3. Ishbel lace scarf
Downloadable pdf from Ysolda. The pattern is definitely worth the very reasonable price. I made it in a variegated sock yarn (can’t remember the brand or colorway — but you could call it “springtime bulbs”).
Easy, and a nice finished product. More pictures and blah blah in the blog post.
4. Ishbel lace scarf, no. 2
I had some Noro Kureyon sock yarn that I didn’t think felt comfy enough for socks. I turned it into another Ishbel, which Trixie has called as hers. She wants a pea coat this winter, one that will go with the scarf. 
5. Ishbel lace scarf, no. 3
This has become an addiction, yo.
This one became a birthday present for my mother.
6. Blue socks for the Consort
I went crazy for a little while, trying to get the second sock to start at the same color and pattern place as the first. But then the Consort told me he didn’t care if they matched, so I took him at his word. Made using the Ann Budd book, Getting Started Knitting Socks, using the 6 sts. per inch pattern. Very nice! Where did the images come from? They look familiar somehow. Are they from the same site that gave the how-to/suggestion on how to edge the towels?
These look even better “live” than in the photos. Make my home much hipper than it has any right to be. I adore them!
Cate: i downloaded the pdf a year ago. I googled, and it was this, but I didn’t do seven, didn’t write any words, and I had to find the how-to binding somewhere else (although she does mention it, she doesn’t go into details of how to do a nice corner…)
